A change in government leadership in the Legislative Assembly

Leader of Government Business taking swift action  

The Cayman Islands general elections held on Wednesday 20 May 2009 saw a change in government leadership in the Legislative Assembly with nine members being elected from the United Democratic Party, five members from the People Progressive Movement and one elected independent. The 15 elected members of the Legislative Assembly represent the Islands’ six districts, four each from George Town and West Bay, three from Bodden Town, two from Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, and one each from North Side and East End.
The new Cabinet, presided over by the Governor Mr Stuart Jack CVO and made up of three official and five elected members and their portfolio, is as follows:

Alan Markoff
Alan has been member of Cayman’s media since 2002 and has served in several media capacities over the years, including associate editor of Cayman Net News, deputy editor of the Caymanian Compass and editor of Flava Magazine. He also was the artistic director and assistant producer of seven episodes of the Cayman Sports Documentary Series television shows. Alan has been very active in the community, serving on the Cayman Islands Little League Board of Directors from 2007 to 2014 and running that organization’s adult co-ed softball program for 16 seasons. With a keen passion for the culinary arts, Alan took over the leadership of Cayman’s Slow Food chapter in early 2009.
