Thorp Alberga: Law firm switches partners

Attorneys at Law Michael Alberga and Melanie Myers-Khouri of Myers & Alberga are joining forces with former Maples and Calder partner Richard Thorp and head of global insurance Ruth Hatt to form the firm Thorp Alberga.

The firm began trading on 31 March following the retirement of Darryl Myers and Bryan Ashenheim from Myers & Alberga.

The partnership will assume the client base of the former firm Myers & Alberga and will specialise in corporate law including funding, exit strategies and initial public offerings, insurance, funds, private equity, regulatory law, commercial property and, through its close relationship with leading London chambers, litigation and insolvency.

“It has been very exciting to have created a new style of law firm,” said Mr Thorp, who was a corporate partner with Maples and Calder in Hong Kong, “free of legacy issues, which will provide a more sensible and focused client experience in the new financial environment.”

“An essential part of our approach is to limit our client base to ensure quality of service and complete client satisfaction that is cost effective,” said Ms Hatt. “We are talking to a number of experienced offshore lawyers who are regarded as experts in their fields and fully intend to expand the firm in the near future.”

Myers & Alberga, based at Harbour Place on South Church Street, began operations in 1978 and has an established relationship with Wilberforce Chambers in London’s Lincoln Inn which has 35 barristers, twelve of them Queens Counsel.

The firm also has membership of the State Capital Law Firm Group, the International Business Law Consortium, the International Tax Planning Association and the MSI Global Alliance.
